Lots of progress on development!

A few folks have been wondering where we’re at on the Bionic Dildo, as we’ve taken to calling it.

We’ve made a lot of progress in the last few months, starting with setting up a workspace for research, development, and testing. We’ve moved into the new space, where we have a lot of resources we didn’t have before.

The first few prototypes were put together by modifying existing sex toys. This crude approach was good enough to show us that the basic technology is sound, but the prototypes we built this way were limited, fragile, and rather uncomfortable to wear.

Since then, we’ve acquired a 3D printer and facilities for making ceramic molds to cast silicone. This allows us to create custom-designed silicone with electronics, sensors, and electrodes cast right in.

From 3D rendering to printed positive that we use to make a mold. And yes, those are Lego bricks we’re using as a mold box!

We’ve 3D printed and made silicone test casts of the insertable part of the device. Here’s a test cast of the insertable with electrodes directly embedded in the cast, a huge improvement over our first few prototypes:

Right now, we’re moving into a development phase aimed at answering questions like:

  • How many sensors and electrodes do we need?
  • What’s the neural density of the inside wall of the vagina?
  • How much variability is there in sensitivity between different people, and between different parts of the inner anatomy of the same person?
  • What’s the best way to modulate the signal in response to pressure on the sensors?
  • What’s the maximum perceptual spatial resolution of the inner anatomy?

The first-generation prototype had three sensors and three electrodes, and the insertable part was rigid plastic, which as you can imagine was not terribly comfortable and certainly not workable for long-term use. The prototype we’re working on now is an enormous improvement: fifteen sensors and fifteen electrodes, embedded in custom silicone that’s far more comfortable.

We’re excited with the progress that we’ve made, and looking forward to what we can learn in 2017.

Keep the updates coming! I was worried that this was a flop after your one year pause between updates,

Hey guys! I just wanted to say awesome work with this idea! I’ve seen a few other companies try things like this, but nothing quite like what you guys are doing here. But I was wondering about a few things.

    1. Do you guys have an estimate on about when you might actually be done with the project? (Just me being impatient, I’ve been waiting for something like this for literally YEARS!)

    2. Do you know of any other products that may be similar to this? There was the “The Ambrosia Vibe”, but they went bankrupt, and my dreams went up in smoke. I just knew that there was a lot of companies doing this, but I was sadly mistaken. So I was wondering if you guys knew anything that was even remotely close to what’s going on here. Thanks, and keep up the good work!

The work that you are doing is absolutely amazing! Ive been wanting something like this for years, and could never find it! Even thought about surgery, but then I came across your work. This is definitely a game changer, and im telling you that this would sell like crazy!! If you guys ever need a test subject, or ambassador for your product, im in 110%!

Six months… Any more news, guys? 🙂

Also, just a thought – which may have been discussed before but I’ve lost track – as it doesn’t provide the greatest simulation of the clit other than the regular fairly gentle and distant mechanical pressure of a typical strapon (and not even as much as an actual feeldoe or vibe-equipped harness) and one of the biggest differences here is the projection of the clit-equivalent (ie the glans and frenulum) some inches forward of the body rather than nestled tightly against it (making a game of “just the tip” a bit tricky)… Are you looking at incorporating any clitoral simulation linked to stimuli around the head of the dildo, in the same way as the shaft stimulates the vag (and therefore in a roundabout way the base of the clit)? Especially, I had a thought, with some microelectrodes enveloping the nubbin as best as possible (pumping and then use of an incorporated ring to keep it extra engorged and manipulable might be needed, or just a sleeve that “inserts” against the inner hood to get a bit more of a wrap around, tensioned in place by the rest of the rig) linked to the head proper, extending as far as the urethra… Then a trail from there back to the vag (one or three trodes wide depending how detailed and complex you want it to be) mapping the frenulum area, with maybe the matching part of the shaft just behind the glans mapping to the further out parts of the labia, with that newer set of zones merging seamlessly on both sides into the existing shaft/vag setup of the original prototypes.

This should provide for a more accurate and complete experience I think, especially as it brings the most sensitive parts of the male and female into play, right from the moment of first contact…

Of course it would greatly increase the number of sensors and electrodes, and need them to be smaller but about as powerful thanks to how much more sensitive and high resolution these areas are, but it would hopefully be well worth the effort 😉

Btw how deep an effect does one of the skin electrodes have, and how are they affected by the inevitable moisture? Can they potentially reach to the more buried parts of the clitoris between the nubbin and the base around the G spot, or would deeper acupuncture needle types (but not THAT deep – a centimetre or two! – it’s the fact of them being hopefully too fine to cause pain that’s more important…) or some kind of tuned inductive signal be necessary for that?

And after all that we of course need to investigate the even trickier concept of something that works in reverse for the male contingent, which isn’t just the back door route… Pelvic musculature would be a bit of a roadblock, but again, there may be a way that nobody has yet done the research to uncover…

I hope there is an update soon…. It’s ironic that I found this at this point, when just the other day I was thinking/fantasizing of how good it would be to REALLY feel what my own “appendage” would be like….
Keep up the good work people!
Wish I was a tester! but unfortunately I live on the absolute other side of the country… unless you wanna mail one over to me to test! hahaha

So how far is the project now? Since ambrosia vibe went down the drain im still looking for something like it to pleasure both!

Is there more progress yet? Or is this another dead project..
